چکیده

The problem of nding minimal sets of objects, that are correlated and have statistically signiicant number of occurrences in a database, has recently received considerable attention, as an alternative to association rules. A case for making mining human-centered, interactive, and exploratory via application speciic constraints was recently made in the papers 14, 12]. The technical results of these papers were established in the context of eecient computation of frequent sets satisfying user speciied constraints. In this preliminary report, we examine the problem of eecient computation of correlated sets satisfying given constraints. We discuss three algorithms for this purpose and report on the results of their experimental evaluation.

Using Constraints During Set Mining: Should We Prune or not?

Knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) is an interactive process that can be considered from a querying perspective. Within the inductive database framework, an inductive query on a database is a query that might return generalizations about the data e.g., frequent itemsets, association rules, data dependencies. To study evaluation schemes of such queries, we focus on the simple case of (freque...

High Utility Itemset Mining

Data Mining can be defined as an activity that extracts some new nontrivial information contained in large databases. Traditional data mining techniques have focused largely on detecting the statistical correlations between the items that are more frequent in the transaction databases. Also termed as frequent itemset mining , these techniques were based on the rationale that itemsets which appe...

Interactive Constraint-Based Sequential Pattern Mining

Data mining is an interactive and iterative process. It is very likely that a user will execute a series of similar queries differing in pattern constraints and mining parameters, before he or she gets satisfying results. Unfortunately, data mining algorithms currently available suffer from long processing times, which is unacceptable in case of interactive mining. In this paper we discuss effi...

The Discovery of Frequent Patterns with Logic and Constraint Programming

The basic goal of data mining is to discover patterns occurring in the databases, such as associations, classification models, sequential patterns, and so on. In this paper we focus on the problem of frequent pattern discovery, which is the process of searching for patterns such as sets of features or items that appear in data frequently. Such frequent patterns can reveal associations, correlat...

Incremental Mining of Constrained Associations

The advent of data warehouses has shifted the focus of data mining from file-based systems to database systems in recent years. Architectures and techniques for optimizing mining algorithms for relational as well as Object-relational databases are being explored with a view to tightly integrate mining into data warehouses. Interactive mining and incremental mining are other useful techniques to...
